  2. We call them thongs, not flip flops.
  3. We are sick of Kangaroos - they overrun some parts of the country.
  4. Our national anthem is Advance Australia Fair.
  5. We have big cities here too - some with millions of people.
  6. The slang name for an Australian is an Aussie.
  7. We like a good backyard barbecue.
  8. Indigenous Australians are called Aborigines. 
  9. We don't (usually) give tips in restaurants. 
  10. Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Heath Ledger and Hugh Jackman are all famous Australian actors.

11. Australia is the driest continent in the world.

There are six states and two territorie.

States: Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania. South Australia and Western Australia.

Territories: Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory.

Aussie rules is a minority sport in QLD and NSW. Rugby league is the most popular sport in QLD and NSW. Over 50% of Australian's live in QLD and NSW.

Cricket is the most popular winter sport in all states and territories.

Therefore, cricket is Australia's only national sport.

can i just point out one thing that i dont agree with is the fact that our national sport is not cricket, its aussie rules. thats our national sport. i think you should check your facts first

Yes subbuteoz - sharp eyes. However he moved when he was 4 years old and is considered a naturalised Australian.

I saw the movie Rabbit-proof fence. Very touching. I have been to Australia - Melbourne area. I loved it. Glad to have met you and thanks for more interesting facts I didn't know. Aloha from Hawaii.

These are interesting tidbits about your country. Even though I have never been to your side of the world, I one day hope to get to Australia and experience the great sights and sounds of your country.
